How to Create a List of All Items in a Folder on Windows 10
Create a searchable Windows 10 folder inventory with PowerShell. Save every file and subfolder path as plain text or export details to a sortable CSV.
To enable the Discord in-game overlay, open the Discord desktop app on Windows, go to User Settings > Game Overlay, and turn on Enable Overlay. Once a supported game is running, press Shift + ` by default to open the overlay. Discord currently supports its Game Overlay on Windows 10 and Windows 11 only; it does not work on macOS or Linux.
Launch the Discord desktop app and sign in. In the lower-left corner, click the gear icon next to your username. This opens User Settings. You do not need to leave your voice channel or close the game first, although it is often easiest to configure the overlay before launching the game.
Open User Settings from the gear icon beside your Discord username.
In User Settings, select Game Overlay, then switch on Enable Overlay. Discord's current support documentation says a check mark means the overlay is enabled and an x means it is disabled. Some Discord builds may already have the newer overlay enabled, so this step is mainly about confirming that the setting is on.
The Game Overlay page contains the main enable switch and overlay shortcut settings.
You can also adjust what the overlay shows. Discord provides controls for message notifications, voice-user display, display names, and avatar size. If you want message notifications to appear over your game, enable Messages under Game Overlay. Muted conversations and Streamer Mode can prevent message notifications from appearing.
Start your game and bring it into focus. Press the overlay keybind; the default is Shift + ` (Shift plus the grave-accent/backtick key). The overlay can show Discord features such as voice participants, messages, calls, activity, video, and streams depending on what is available and how you have configured it.
With the game in focus, use the overlay keybind to open Discord without switching windows.
After opening the overlay, use the pin icon to choose which overlay windows remain visible while you play. Discord says the pin control can be used for Notifications, Voice, Video, Activity, and Streams. This lets you keep useful information visible without leaving the full Discord window on screen.
For the latest menu names and options, see Discord's official Game Overlay 101 documentation.
If the overlay is enabled but nothing appears in your game, try these checks in order:
Borderless Windowed is the first display-mode change to try when the overlay does not appear.
Discord's current overlay support is limited to Windows 10 and Windows 11. If you are using macOS or Linux, the desktop Game Overlay is not available. On Windows, true exclusive fullscreen can also prevent the newer overlay from displaying. If your game offers Borderless Windowed, that is the safer choice for compatibility.
Discord has been replacing its older overlay implementation with a newer design intended to improve stability and game compatibility. Because the rollout and interface have changed over time, older guides that tell you to use a Game Activity page or rely on legacy per-game controls may not match the current client. The most reliable reference is Discord's current Game Overlay settings and its official Game Overlay known-issue page.
If you only want the shortest path: open Discord, click the gear icon, choose Game Overlay, enable Enable Overlay, launch your game, and press Shift + `. If nothing appears, switch the game to Borderless Windowed and test again.
